Standardization system for medicinal glass bottles

The State Drug Administration follows a principle of formulating standards for pharmaceutical packaging materials based on the division by material. For glass medicine bottles, there are a total of 43 standards that have been or will be released. These standards are categorized into three types.
The first category encompasses 23 product standards. Out of these, 18 standards have already been published, while 5 are scheduled to be released in 2004. The second category consists of test method standards, with a total of 17 standards. Among these, 10 standards have been published so far, and the remaining 7 will be released in 2004. Lastly, the third category comprises 3 basic standards. One of these standards has already been released, and the other two are planned to be published in 2004.
It is crucial to adhere to these standards to ensure the quality and safety of pharmaceutical packaging materials, specifically for glass medicine bottles. By categorizing the standards based on the type of material, the State Drug Administration aims to provide comprehensive guidelines and regulations for this crucial aspect of the pharmaceutical industry.

The product standards are categorised into different types based on the product type. The first category consists of 23 items and is further divided into 8 types. The types include Molded Injection Bottles, Controlled Injection Bottles, Glass Infusion Bottles, Molded Pharmaceutical Bottles, Controlled Drugs, Bottles, Controlled Oral Liquid Bottles, Ampoule and Glass Medicinal Tubes. Each type has a varying number of items, with "Molded Injection Bottles", "Controlled Injection Bottles", "Glass Infusion Bottles", "Molded Pharmaceutical Bottles", and "Controlled Drugs" having 3 items each. "Bottles", "Controlled Oral Liquid Bottles", and "Glass Medicinal Tubes" have 3, 3, and 2 items respectively. It is worth noting that the "Glass Medicinal Tubes" are a semi-finished product used for processing various types of controlled bottles and ampoules.

The second category encompasses 17 test method standards that focus on various aspects of glass medicine bottles. These standards primarily aim to evaluate the performance and indicators of different products, specifically examining the chemical properties of glass. To align with ISO standards, new criteria, such as water resistance, have been introduced. Moreover, comprehensive detection methods for alkali resistance and acid resistance have been incorporated, offering a more scientific approach to assessing chemical stability. This enables the adaptation of medicinal glass bottles to diverse drugs with varying properties and dosage forms, ultimately ensuring the quality of both the bottles and the medicines they contain. Additionally, to guarantee the safety of glass medicine bottles, a testing method for harmful element leaching has been included. However, it is important to continuously supplement and enhance the inspection method standards for medicinal glass bottles. For instance, the testing methods for alkali-resistant deflaking in ampoules, breaking force, and anti-freezing shock play a pivotal role in determining the quality and applicability of these bottles.
